Double Win as Sabina Celebrates 40th Anniversary

On Saturday, our 1sts and 2nds took to court to show off their skills in north-west Kent league.

First up were our lovely 2nds who were facing OBA 2. We got off to a flying start on a chilly morning, with some calm, collected, clinical passages of play. Taking every opportunity we could, we intercepted many of OBA’s passes and converted them to goal. Starting as we meant to go on, at the end of the first half, the score stood at 33-14 to us. In the third quarter, we really pulled together and demonstrated a true championship quarter as we tightened up even more in defence, making interception after interception throughout court and collecting rebounds, we allowed only 4 goals in for OBA. The third quarter ended on 49-18. OBA came back and fought hard to level to half our score to secure a point, but it was too late. The final score was a superb 64-23 meaning that we prevented OBA from gaining a point. What a result! Roxanne secured herself another player of the match accolade as she smashed it as GA, making some lovely drives into the circle and shooting those all-important goals that helped secure a fantastic win – congratulations Rox! 🎊

Next up was the 1st who took on Hornets 1. The game was closely contested throughout as each team took almost all their own centre passes through to goal with slick transitions through court. There was little room for error, one dropped ball or inaccurate pass would result in a goal conceded for the other team. After some well fought work in defence, we turned over a few of Hornets centre passes, resulting in the first quarter ending on a score of 11-8 to us. In the second quarter, Hornets came back with more fight, causing some forced errors and quickly turning over ball to goal. The score at half time now stood at 22-23 to Hornets. We weren’t going to let this happen. We adapted our play to cut down the opposition smartly and clinically to cause wayward balls and create turnovers. Driving for the ball to create options and take our time, we only allowed Hornets to score 5 goals, while we scored 13 in the third quarter. The final quarter was evenly matched, once again going goal for goal and making am equal number of turnovers. The match concluded with a score of 48-40 to us! Player of the match went to Rachel, who played as Centre for the entire game and managed to get a few cheeky interceptions while she was at it! 🎉

A successful day at the office as we secure a double win, on the day that we celebrated our 40th Anniversary! What a super Saturday! ❤️🖤

Regional Squad Give Essex Open a Challenge

On Saturday the 5th of November Sabina Regionals took on Essex open. Starting slow our girls were down in the first quarter 14 - 8 to Essex however they were able to even out the scores during the second quarter 9 - 7 to Essex and ending the first half with a score of 23 - 15 to Essex. Our girls were efficient at moving the ball down the court into the circle. The circulation of the ball from defence to attack kept us in the game and our Sabina girls effectively used the transverse line to reset their game play. During the last two quarters Sabina came back in full force ending the third quarter with 12 - 10 to Essex however despite a hard fight the game ended 50 - 34 to Essex. Our girls showed some excellent passages of play and worked well together, let’s keep up the positivity and fight continuing the season regionals! Well done to Vanessa for winning players player!

Double Win for 3rd Squad in North West Kent League

Last Saturday Sabina thirds took on Aqua 2 on Saturday the 29th of October. Starting the first quarter with a 7 - 7 draw, our girls warmed up and got their game faces on for the second. Our third’s played with intensity and vigor as they powered through the following 3 quarters winning with a score of 42 - 26 to Sabina. They were able to keep 3 or more goals ahead throughout the game and communicated excellently with one another. The thirds showed themselves as a team and have begun to learn each other’s styles of playing. They showed a drive and aggression to win the game and earned their win fair and square! Well done thirds! And I special congratulations to Grace for winning player of the match!

The previous Saturday Sabina Thirds played Trinity Blues. The game started slow however Sabina quickly picked up their pace and ended the second quarter leading 17 - 9. Our girls played with strength and worked together as a team however during the final two quarters our game lost its initial momentum, partially due to rain and a few tricky moments with umpires. Despite this we kept up our fight and worked well to make effective game play changes throughout, working together to come out on top with a final score of 31 - 28 to Sabina! Our girls were excellent at using channels to drive the ball into the goal third and continued their great communication from last week. Let’s keep up the winning streak thirds! Special well done to Louisa for winning player of the match!

You Win Some,You Lose Some

On Saturday 22nd October:

The 1sts were up against OBA on Court 6 first. It was a slow start to the game we began to analyse OBA’s style of play. Goal for goal, we managed to turn over OBAs centre pass only to have OBA turn over our centre pass. It was a very close first quarter, ending on 10-10. A quick change of positions and we were off again, adapting to OBAs style of play and shutting down their attack from reaching the circle edge. Defence worked hard to close down the space and get some incredible turn overs. We then took the ball straight to goal with a swift efficiency. The first half ended on 22-17 to us. In the second half the mission was on to continue our lead and create more opportunities to widen our lead. By securing more turnovers in defence and through court, forcing errors from OBA and making fast but accurate passages of play down court to our attackers who did a superb job of shooting shots. The final score for the game was 45-32, securing us a win. Player of the match went to Cassain for her fabulous play making in the attacking third and getting some great shots in – well done Cass!

2nds took on Beacons next in a hard fought match. Throughout the game we made some nice passages of play where we were able to get the ball to goal from centre pass in 2 or 3 passes. Shoutout to Roxanne for some great takes when we threw some long bombs her way and she sunk them. We began well, with the majority of the first half going goal for goal - ending on a score of 25-27 to Beacons. A slight lead for the opposition but still lots to play for. Going into the second half, defence had some great moments, coming out for the fly balls and taking some sensational interceptions. As the game progressed, we unfortunately had some breakdown throughout court both in defence and in attack as Beacons maintained their play. They were able to shut down our attack on the centre pass and backline, meaning we struggled to progress the ball down court. Their fast and nippy play got the better of us at times, resulting in a widening lead for Beacons. The final score ended on 59-49 to Beacons.Player of the match went to Roxanne for her strong takes in the shooting circle!
