Tours

Sabina Netball Team goes on tour annually, and visit outside the UK such as Spain,Malta, Jersey and even Jamaica.

In Uk attends Manchester, Bournemouth and the Butlin sites in Somerset and Sussex.  We would love you to join us at the club so that you can enjoy these activities too!

The club also participates in summer league and try to attend a number of netball rallies throughout the summer - these are great fun and a good opportunity to keep your fitness up!

It would be remised of me not the mention the passion and motivation shown by both the Under 16 lin Sussex AND HOW PROUD THE CLUB is of these players.

All coaches, supporters and team members really enjoyed the weekend and to come away with medals and a cup is a bonus.

On arrival to the tournament it was noted that the age groups were mixed due to insufficient teams in each age category so we had both younger and older teams in the groups.

With the first game, I just allow the players to play and observe giving each only one objective

Following the first game I knew that they could do better even though they had won the game, so some evaluation was taken and I ask the girls what they think they needed to do so they took ownership of their play on court.

They came up with their own goals but knew that they were up against a much stronger in physique and experience team for the next game. We did lose this second game, but this did not deter the girls as they knew that they were playing against much older girls.

They were tasked to watch their opposition players and feedback what they could do to counteract and breakdown play – they then use this as their own objective to go on court and was pleased when it worked.

  • With my deliberate position placing and anchoring certain players the girls in this team starting to build their own self-esteem and self-belief.
  • They built on their own communication and I started to see the leadership on the court and each taken ownership of their action.
  • They played 6 games on Saturday and won 4 and loss 2 finishing 3rd on the day.
  • This meant they had to win their last game on the Sunday in the groups to be in the Gold section

Sunday

The girls came ready knowing they had a challenging afternoon but they were very enthusiastic.

Their first game was against the team at the top of the table and the ladies were like fighting wolves and really raised their game.  Their movement was amazing and they, who were also given the same objectives and goals, also supported each other on court by backing each other up and giving two leads for every pass.  They all defended their players resulting in some very important turnovers being made.

This weekend we saw the girls in a very different light and could actually see them thinking on court.  They played 2 more games for the afternoon against some very tall opponents but this did not slow us down or affect our girls as they used their smaller growth to their advantage and played below their opponents; who were not too happy to be getting beaten by our girls.

Great Final – no reflection on the girls – a few tears as they knew they had the game – Its really wonderful to be in this position and the girls knowing what they can achieve with hard work and determination.

They really took this in their strives and pushed through.  Turning over balls and communicating between themselves to ensure they utilised turn over balls

Midcourt stayed calm and collective to build their game.  They worked extremely well to bring the ball to ‘circle edge’ and finished off by delivering good balls to the shooters and were there to support around the circle.  The targets set were to mark the players rather than the ball and this resulted in a high number of balls being intercepted by our mid-court players.

Defence worked very hard.  They took on board all the coaching points and tactics given and executed very well, making the job of the opposition shooters very hard to get the ball in.  We had some fast feet moving to deny the space and communicated very well with each other to switch players.

There were a few unforced errors but this did not take the girls’ mind off what they wanted and they work extra hard to ensure they got the outcome wanted.  Beating every team again and meeting their target to get a better performance and result the girls knew the hard work was not yet over as they were in the finals and had to play the team who came 2nd in the tournament.  Only beating this team by one goal on Saturday but beating them by 4 goals earlier that morning you could see the anxiety on the girls face.

Further discussion took place and set out objectives and planned our tactics.  The girls agreed the way they were going to win the finals were to score off their goals and to stay calm and collective to maintain their composure. Their ladies dugged real deep and played their socks off to win the final by 3 goals.  The delight on their face was priceless and they really deserved to win.

All weekend the ladies took ownership of themselves and their team.  They really looked after and supported each other and used their own initiative to plan their next moves without being supervised as coaches were double tasking and umpiring as well.  We are very pleased and proud of their maturity and growth as both individuals and a team.

The seniors had a bit more success having not lose a game on the Saturday, they were then placed in the cup.

  • We were then in the quarter finals against a local team which we won comfortably, but our play seemed to have dropped.
  • Finally we were drawn against a very tough team in the semi-finals – unfortunately, felt that we did not perform as well as we could (perhaps it is a mental block with this team) but on reflection felt we could have won if we had applied ourselves as we did with their second team – some learns here!

In saying that, all enjoyed the weekend, some great netball displayed, great support by both players and non-players – some new bonds were created with the young players and all felt it was a GREAT TOUR
