A Double Win on a Sunny Saturday Morning

Posted by Rachel Evans on 27 March 2022

A sunny start to a Saturday morning and a warm welcome for our 1sts and 2nds as they took to the court.

An early start for the 1sts, who played Istead 1 in the first match of the day. The game began strongly with some excellent consistency and self-analysis throughout the court. We used the opportunity to try and execute some new things as well as reinforce units and communication. We ended the first half with a staggering score of 37-11; allowing Istead to score only 5 in the second quarter to our 21! Throughout the game the defence were on FIRE, taking every possible opportunity from Istead and allowing it to be converted to goal! Shooting as usual was on an equally high level, with a high shooting percentage. Some great transitions and tactics from everyone! A real delight to watch and a great chance to practice some new moves in preparation for our regional games. All in all, top tier netball was played and the final score reflected this: 66-22 to our lovely firsts. POTM went to Princess for reading the game and making some fabulous predictions that led to some sick interceptions! Well done Princess! 🎉

Later on our 2nds took on Swanley as the weather began to heat up a little more. We began in the first quarter with a few players out of position, meaning that we had a slower start than we’d have liked. Nevertheless, once we’d made some vital changes we began to create space and opportunities for the ball to be turned over and made a come-back from 3 down, ending the first half with a score of 21-13. We made some great passages of play where we demonstrated the hard work we’d put in during training but struggled at times to drive for the ball as the game progressed. A change to rest some injuries meant a new dynamic on court that we had to adapt to. Overall we made excellent adaptations and worked hard to maintain a solid lead against Swanley and ended the game with a final score of 39-30. POTM went to Renata for her incredible work turning over many balls and giving great direction in defence! Congratulations Renata! 🎉

A double win for our 1sts and 2nds means they both remain firmly in 1st position their respective divisions – keep it up ladies!
