1sts and 2nds Retain Top Positions in NWKL

Posted by Rachel Evans on 1 December 2021

It was freezing cold morning but the start of a big day for us here at Sabina as both our 2nds and 1sts fight to take on top spot in the league.

Our 2nds took on Club Langley 1 in a tight game that went almost goal for goal from the start. The cold weather certainly gave us another element to think of as we started off a little slower than we'd have liked. We worked well in combinations to ensure smooth and efficient transitions through court, using front drives to avoid long balls into cold hands. There were some moments where Club Langley fought back and obtained a few consecutive goals but we fought back twice as hard to regain possession and convert their mistakes into goals. We ended the first half with a score of 22-20 to us. In the second half, the defence worked their magic as we all we warm now, and picked off the oppositions balls, again Club Langley fought back to create a run of several goals, we adapted and kept our heads up knowing how important this match was and came back to end the game in a final score of 47-43 to Sabina. Roxanne was awarded POTM for her fierce shooting and keeping those hands going even in the freezing cold! Well done Rox! 🎉 This maintains our 2nds position in top spot in the league with one match to go in the first round.

Next up we had our 1sts who took on Tonbridge 1 in another fight to maintain top spot in the league. A great match throughout with very slick and clinical passages of play through court from defenders to the shooting circle. The first half ended with a score of 25-17 to us. Combinations worked really well in all units including our shooters who used initiative to adapt their angles and play to beat Tonbridge's defence. As usual, our defence were rockstars, flying in from all angles to swoop balls from the air! The final score was a whopping 50-28, which included a fab third quarter consisting of Tonbridge only securing 3 goals to our 10. This also meant that our 1sts retained top spot in the league. Vanessa clinched POTM as Wing Attack, making some sensational drives to the circle edge and pin point precision in her passing. Congratulations on a big weekend of netball wins for you Vanessa! 🎉
