You Win Some, You Lose Some

Last week consisted of not one but two exciting games - here are the match reports!

✨ ✨ ✨

Another scorcher of a day for our Tuesday evening match and this match ensured to be a close one! Winning the toss, we secured the first goal of the game and this was quickly followed by some goal for goal play from both teams - neck and neck!

A crucial turn over from Langley meant that they crept ahead by one goal at the end of the first quarter with the score standing at 6-5 to them. The second quarter followed the same pattern, goal for goal with Langley scoring from some turn overs leaving Sabina down by 3. The second half, both teams came back strong, increasing the speed and intensity of the match despite the heat. After a few changes, we fought hard and won the quarter 7 goals to 6, however this meant we were only down by 1 goal. 17-16 to Langley. We just needed that final push to get us that extra turn over to secure a win. Unfortunately, in the final quarter Langley pulled out the stops and capitalised on some of our errors, winning the quarter 7-5, leaving the final score standing at 24-22 to Langley.

Sadly, it took us a while to warm up and unfortunately a minor mistakes cost us a win as we did not adjust our play effectively enough. In future trainings we want to focus on driving forward for the ball combined with advanced footwork skills so that we ensure we have plenty of options moving down the court at speed with precision.

We did well to pick it up in the third quarter and kept applying pressure to prevent the goal difference from becoming too large. Feeding into the circle was good and we had good momentum once we had possession of the ball.

This weeks playing of the match was Nat for her fantastic movement around the circle and fab shooting at 78%.

✨ ✨ ✨

Sunday morning came with another installment of the Falcon Cup. This time we added a little bit of ✨ spice ✨ by being indoors and a home game. We played from a squad of 10 consisting mostly regional players who have not played since October 2020 but decided to select a starting 7 with a mixture of experience.

Despite a gutsy performance from Peregrine Falcons, they were missing a few key players due to it being Father’s Day and our strong Sabina side took full advantage. We started off strong utilising every centre pass and turning over lots of balls lost by Peregrine Falcons as we ended the first half with a score of 22-7.

The second half saw us take an extra burst of energy as we went on a goal scoring and defensive rampage scoring 14 and 16 goals in the third and final quarter, respectively, whilst only allowing Peregrine Falcon's 3 goals in the third quarter. The final quarter was a dream for our coaches as we met our shooting target and did not allow the opposition a single goal!! The match concluded with a phenomenal score of 52-9 to Sabina!

Overall, our objectives for this game were to analyse our fitness and match sense. With a range of players' experience we also wanted to develop new and edgy partnerships within unit and we successfully met targets and adapted to play. Isolating the opposition and hunting for interceptions was another key objective that we wanted to work hard on this match and once we'd dusted off a few cobwebs we fell right back into the swing of it!

Moving forward we want to continue performing to this high standard and adapting our game in accordance with our opposition but c'mon - how often do you see the opposition get zero goals in the final quarter? We did our job 💪🏾

Player of the match Natalie (again... 😉) who played GS and GA. Well done to Nat for showing such strength in two different teams - what a week it has been for you! We're so proud!
